What are “post hypnotic suggestions” and how do they work?
During hypnosis or hypnotherapy as person is guided into a relaxed hypnotic state. When this point is achieved, the therapist or hypnotist will them give them “suggestions”. These suggestions are to do with the purpose of the therapy so for example if the hypnosis was for losing weight the suggestions might be things like “you prefer to eat small meals”. A post hypnotic suggestion is one that is designed to take effect (or be reinforced) after the hypnosis is over. For example “if you try to eat more than a small amount you will feel bloated and nauseous”.
