What are Embedded Hypnotic Suggestions?
There are different types of hypnotic suggestions that we use in hypnotherapy. Embedded suggestions are a type of suggestion used in hypnosis and hypnotherapy where it is deliberately made less obvious to the listener. This can be very useful when working on a sensitive issue that could evoke a difficult emotional response. Often the embedded suggestions are spoken in a permissive way, or presented as an idea or a possibility rather than a command. A direct suggestion such as “Every day you feel more sure of yourself” is a very different way of working on the subconscious mind. An embedded suggestion about confidence might be something like this:
“As you confidently walk into the room, notice how relaxed you feel. Doesn’t that feel good”
How are Embedded Suggestion Used?
With an embedded suggestion, the important point you want to take an effect on the subconscious, ideally slips past the conscious critical faculty largely going unnoticed. So attempting to place it in such as way that it doesn’t seem to be the main message is the general idea here. To clarify; the above example, hopefully it should feel that the message being conveyed in that sentence is about feeling relaxed. The use of the word “confident” is the embedded suggestion and is the point of the whole sentence.
