Why Can’t I Feel Free to Accept Love?

Are you one of those people who can love and care for others but you find it hard to open up and accept love yourself? How do you accept genuine love? You would need to let your barriers down and allow the real you to be seen. To accept love involves sharing and trusting fully despite any perceived risk if things don’t last. You may fear losing some of your self identity or freedom but to accept love requires taking a chance that it will be worth it. If you have problems doing this, it is something you can work on and improve.

Why do some people have a problem accepting love?

Do we accept the love we think we deserve perhaps? Is it that being hurt in the past damages our ability to accept love again? It could a difficult childhood experience, or perhaps a bad relationship with a partner. With help and effort and time, we can change these reactions and limitations. Learning to trust, to accept yourself and to dare to take a chance will help you to accept love. Taking a chance of course means accepting that there is a risk of being hurt.

Talking with your partner can help. Sharing that you have this problem could at least help them to understand and be patient with you. Learning to love yourself may also help as you might subconsciously be feeling unlovable or undeserving of love. There are many things you can do to help overcome these issues such as reading in depth on the subject, getting counselling and being open and honest about the problem in order to face it and resolve it.
