What is Too Much?
However, if you are excessively stressed or if it causes prolonged or repeated feelings of emotional discomfort and mental turmoil, this can cause mental and physical illness and must be addressed so that it does not get out of hand. If stressful feelings are ruining your life or casing problems, this is neither acceptable nor inevitable. Read on to find out way to resolve this and start feeling better.
What are the Symptoms
Symptoms that suggest you are too stressed can be wide ranging and vary significantly from person to person. You may find that your sleep is disturbed. You may find that you are irritable and snappy. You may find that you are crying more easily, feeling overwhelmed or shouting and losing control. You may find that you are physically exhausted, your heart is racing and you feel out of sorts. Feeling overwhelmed and over stressed can make everything feel more difficult and challenging, especially as it can disturb your sleep and you may be feeling tired or drained.
Fight or Flight
These anxiety symptoms are as a result of your “fight or flight” instinct. The term “fight or flight” describes how we as humans naturally react to stressful situations or events. The instincts to either fight the threat or run away to safety (flight) were vital for our survival in more primitive times. We have carried that same instinct into modern life, it is hard wired into us and being stressed and having too much going on can trigger that response. Recognizing it is the first step, and you can free yourself from this reaction.

What Causes Stress?
There can be many causes. It is normal to be stressed at times because life can be challenging, but if it is taking over and making it difficult for you to function that is out of control and needs to be addressed. Some examples of stressful situations include work anxiety, relationships problems, difficult people, heath issues, financial worries and so on. It can be with anything and everything.
Understand your triggers: It is important to understand the causes of your stressful feelings because if you can understand it you can make changes to address it. Take some time to journal, writing down your thoughts, your particular causes and triggers can help you find a way forward. Understanding why you are stressed is the first step towards finding ways to reduce and eliminate these unwanted thoughts and feelings in your life.
Post Stress Reactions
Sometimes the cause of current stressful feelings and thoughts can be from an historical stressful event or situation. It may be referred to as, “post stress syndrome”, “post traumatic stress disorder” or “post stress disorder symptoms”. If the cause of today’s stressful feelings for you is because of the experiences in the past it is important that you acknowledge the reasons for your reactions and seek treatment to address them.
Treatment
There are many effective treatments that can help. The most obvious is to reduce your exposure to the situations, people or events that are currently causing you to feel too stressed out. If you cannot remove yourself from the cause, you can instead undertake activities to alleviate the feelings and thoughts. Taking time for regular exercise, eating well, sleeping for 7 to 9 hours a night and regularly talking to others is always time well spent and can help a great deal. Seeking professional help from a counsellor or therapist can also help.
